Silver Sands Middle School Reviews

With only 16 days left of school (07/08) we moved from Hendersonville, NC to Port Orange. We have a handicapped daughter and were scared to death of how our experience to a new school would be especially so late in the school year when teachers, administrators and staff were ready for summer. I was sick to my stomach as any mom would be. From day one of entering the office of Silver Sands Middle School we were met with the most loving and caring staff ever. There were a few glitches as where to put our daughter, B.R. but those got worked out and we felt sooo welcome. You hear horror stories about moving and relocating, but I hope anyone who has to move is welcomed like we were with love and kindness from all at SSMS.

I am a sixth grader at ssms and so far its been great, except for some common locker situations! I really like the teachers here, especially Ms. Milton! =]

I went to Silver Sands 3 years ago, and still can't get over it. It has been best school I've attended. Everything about it, the teachers, students, enviroment...absolutely amazing! I miss it so much! My 2 best friends go there and I so wish I was there with them! :[ Mr. May, Mr. Alligood, Mr. Ross, Mrs. Wedge, Mrs. C. WIlliams are the most awesomest teachers of all time. Mr. May was my reading teacher in 7th grade, and actually made me want to pick up a book. I love Silver Sands and totally wish I was bacckkkkk!! Go Warriors! <3

I have been going silver sands middle since 6th Grade. I like this school alot but i have had 1 teacher that i could not understand, but you can find that at any school. My principal was very kind at switching me out of the class i had a problem with. This school also has an amazing Agriculture department!!! The Techer Mr. Norman is the best. They also have animals in AG sutch as pigs, goats, cows, rabbits, chickens, sheep, and ducks!! It's a real hands on experience!!!! i would recomend Silver sands to anyone!!!!!! -------- Go warriors!!!!!! :)

This is an excellent school.... My children really love it there. The teachers are wonderful.

ssms is a wonderful school!i am a sixth grader and all of the teachers are great.especially ms.pape the drama teacher. -go warriors

I am a student at SSMS and the school is outstanding. All the students are willing and generous. I have never seen a student be mean to another. This school is just terrific.

Lake Silver is a wonderful school for a family looking for strong academics and great parent involvement in a family friendly environment. I have had two children go all the way through Lake Silver and currently have my third child starting second grade in the fall. Our family has enjoyed the many advantages of having a loving, caring and talented teaching team coupled with a great new principal who is a strong leader. Lake Silver is on the way up! The best thing about Lake Silver is the opportunity it provides our family to learn about diversity while getting a high quality education at the same time. Our children have learned to care about different types of people based on their strong character and not on the color of their skin, or the amount of money in their bank account or whether their bodies work perfectly. Come check it out!

I have had 2 children complete 3 years at this middle school and both have excelled in all areas and the school is a well balanced school.

This is a wonderful school with great extracurricular activities. I have been impressed with everything.

We have had nothing but a positive experience here. I would recommend SSMS to any incoming 6th grader.

An A school all the way!

I have a child that has attended this school for 6th and 7th grade and is now starting 8th grade She is in after school programs . We have had nothing but good things from this school . we have had 2 unfortunant situations over the past 2 years but on both i have felt that the school has dealt with them very well .this school has found a wonderful way to create a comfortable place for my child to learn and grow as a person . they do not over supervise the students to a point that they feel untrusted . but it is not so loosely supervised that things are out of hand . To me this allows the kids to learn to interact and deal with things on there own and still know that if for whatever reason the situation is out of their scope the proper people are readaly available . I did not have this kind of atmosphere in school when i was her age and i thank everyone at Silver Sands Middle School for providing it for my child . I would recomend this school to anyone .

We felt very comfortable the 2002-2003 year our daughter attended;finding the 7th grade principal quite adept @ keeping safety & discipline a priority while knowing his students .The high quality professional instructors quickly implemented testing & an extensive plan for her individulized education. I was immediately favorably impressed with the friendly outgoing instructors/councilors in the guidance and special ed areas who oriented her to the school and to many new friends. I have never been more pleased to see that my daughter was now learning & looking forward to attending school. She also, looked forward to rewards such as trips to Epcot, supervised formal or casual dances, etc. Phys ed coaches offered training & encouragment in a variety of student choices. i.e. weight lifting, track, combat games,& much more. To see her relay to me the days events with a now frequent smile was worth more than words can ever express. We found staff visible and easily accessable via phone, fax, or appt. I only regret that due to illness, we have no choice but to move out of state and unfortunately, we won't be able to continue her learning @ Silver Sands. I believe attending this year would have helped her so much in being ready for the transition to high school next year. When everyone works together, so smoothly;it's easy to see how this school maintains it's 'A' rating.

We had an 'open house' at this school, and none of the special area teachers showed up because they weren't required to by contract. I found this disappointing. Also, in comparison to my daughter's other school, this school was bare and didn't seem very 'loved.' The teachers complained alot about having too many students - and said this was why we (the parents) shouldn't expect too much from them. We experienced a lot of negativity on the part of the assistant principals and one or two of the teachers. My daughter was beat up on one occasion due to lack of supervision. Several times I tried to communicate with teachers - they never responded to emails, notes or phone calls. On a positive note, she did have several good experiences with teachers. These teachers saw to it that she learned what she was supposed to and showed a definite interest in her education. It seems to be luck of the draw!
